Directory › How It Works
How the directory works
A free, professional web page that helps customers — and AI search — find your local business. Here's exactly what it is and how to make the most of it.
What it is
PresenceScanner is a free directory of local businesses across Venice, North Port, Sarasota, and Southwest Florida. Each business gets its own professional page, hand-built to be found on Google and by AI search tools like ChatGPT. No cost, no ads. Your page is built from the details you provide and sent straight to you — it's yours.
Why it helps you get found
Built for AI search
AI tools read the visible words on a page, so yours opens with a direct answer and puts real questions and answers in plain text where they can be quoted.
A real web presence
No website? Your page works as your professional home online — free, and findable.
Built from your details
I build your page from the info you provide and send it straight over. Need a detail corrected? Just say so.
Stronger together
Every page links to the others, so the whole directory lifts each listed business.
We measured this. We checked 81 top-ranked local businesses across eight trades in Venice, Nokomis, North Port, Englewood and Port Charlotte. All of them rank on page one of Google. Seventy percent were not named when ChatGPT was asked to recommend someone in their own trade and town.

What goes into every page
Every listing is hand-built and checked before it goes live. Here is what that actually means.
- It opens with a direct answer. Who you are, what you do, and where you serve, in the first two sentences. Search engines and AI lift opening lines, so there is no warm-up.
- Your own words are on it. What makes you different comes from your intake form, not from me. That is the part no competitor can copy and the part AI treats as distinctive.
- Real questions, answered in plain text. Three to five questions phrased the way customers actually ask, with straight answers underneath. This is the most quotable part of the page.
- Your service area named town by town. Not "Southwest Florida" but every community you cover, because that is how people search.
- Real reviews only. Quoted as text with the customer's name. Never invented, never bought, and no fake star ratings in the code. Google penalizes that and it is not worth the risk to your business.
- License verified where one exists. For licensed trades I check the number against the state's own records before it goes on the page, so a customer can trust it.
- A proper preview card. When you share your link on Facebook or in a text, it shows your logo on a clean card instead of a grey box.
- Built to load fast on a phone. Your logo is a hosted image rather than code buried in the page, which keeps it light on a weak signal.
- Titles that survive. Page titles and descriptions kept short enough that Google does not cut them off mid-sentence in the results.
- Submitted, not just published. Your page is added to the site map and indexing is requested with both Google and Bing.
- Instructions you can act on. Every page carries a two-minute step for adding your listing to your own website, ready to copy or forward to whoever manages it.
- Checked by script, not memory. Every page on this site is audited automatically for broken links, missing details, and mistakes. Rules I have to remember are rules I will eventually forget.
How to join

3Your page goes live, and I share your page link with you to start sharing.
How to use your page
- Share the link where customers look: Facebook posts & bio, business cards, email signature, texts.
- On Facebook, put the link in the first comment (not the post body) for better reach.
- Add it to your Google Business Profile as your website or in a post.
- Check how your business shows up online anytime with the free scanner.
Why sharing lifts everyone
This is a business networking community, not a competition. Every page links to the others — so when we each share our pages, we all get found by more people. A rising tide lifts all ships.
Common questions
If several businesses in my trade are listed, how does AI choose which to recommend?
Google and AI tools favor the business they have the most clear, consistent information about — the one with the most reviews, the most complete details, and the closest match to the customer's specific question. Detail wins. The more specific you are about exactly what you do, where you serve, and what sets you apart, the better AI can match you to the right customer. Vague, generic pages blur together.
What's the single most important thing I can do to get found?
Google reviews, by far. A steady flow of real, recent reviews is a top factor in how Google ranks a business and how AI tools decide which to recommend. A business with many fresh reviews gets recommended over a similar business with few. Gather them honestly — ask every customer, never gate or incentivize — to stay within platform rules.
Is a listing really free?
Yes — a professional page, no cost, no ads, no catch. Pages are hand-built for local businesses in the community, to help neighbors find local services and help good businesses get found online.
